I have a few questions about World borders data that is free. (AdministrativeAreas.zip)
How old is that data? Is it valid and contains all 250/251 countries border data??
There are fields CODE, CODE_DESC in the shapefile. This CODE field, I think is FIPS country code. Is this correct??
Is there a way to convert these codes to ISO2 country codes?
Let me know asap.
VMAP0 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_map
How is this related to my question???
The World maps on our site were converted from VMAP0 (September 2000).The CODE field contains 2-digit FIPS codes.
Is there a latest version of this file available??
Are you going to provide latest version of Administrative Boundaries shapefile from latest data available?
Can you please tell.
The maps are from National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. If they update the maps, we will be happy to update them and provide them in the shapefile format as well.
There has been a lot of changes related to South Sudan being seperate from Sudan, Gaza / palestine seperate from israel and a couple of small corrections on data for islands in carribbean which are small island countries themselves and the data in world_borders_data shapefile is incorrect for them. Did NGA correct VMAP0 data since 2000??? I guess they would definitely have. Can you please check?
We are not aware about any updates since VMAP0 became Public Domain.
